It was a good day: Ice Cube rides the Goodyear blimp for charity

Genius fundraising idea has lift-off.

On his 1993 single ‘It Was A Good Day’, Ice Cube’s perfect 24 hours famously end with him seeing the words “Ice Cube’s A Pimp” on the side of the Goodyear blimp.

Recently the Good Day Blimp project launched a campaign to persuade Goodyear to fly its aircraft with the same message on the anniversary of what some rap geeks reckon is the exact ‘good day’ of Cube’s song, all to raise money for L.A. youth charity A Place Called Home.

Ice Cube got on board with the operation and asked people to donate to the project during his appearance on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon last week, adding that he’d top up the donations from his own pocket, too. Goodyear agreed, and sent Cube a letter asking him to ride in the blimp along with some of the kids the charity is helping.

So, yesterday the rapper turned up for his ride and all went to plan – although Goodyear decided to swap out the pimping for something more age-appropriate, with the message simply reading: “It’s a good day”. Check out footage from the day below.
