Franz Ferdinand have been tapped to provide the next in the LateNightTales series of compilations, and it looks as if their offering will be a good ‘un.

The post punkers have long declared a love for all things noodly and electronic, but they confirm it here dropping Oneohtrix Point Never’s ‘Zebra’ and Boards of Canada’s ‘Reach for the Dead’. Elsewhere they touch on krautrock with Can’s ‘Connection’, funk with James Brown’s ‘King Heroin’ and dub with Lee “Scratch” Perry’s ‘Disco Devil’, and there are plenty more surprises.

The mix is bookended by two tracks from frontman Alex Kapranos and the crew – it kicks off with a Franz Ferdinand cover of Jonathan Halper’s ‘Leaving My Old Life Behind’ and ends with a spoken word track from Kapranos himself.

LateNightTales: Franz Ferdinand will be released on September 15, on CD, digital and double 180g vinyl. [via Resident Advisor]
