Mysterious techno operative makes shock return with debut album Butterfly Effect.

Flick through the pages of FACT long enough and you’ll probably realize we hold the Basic Channel-affiliated Chain Reaction label in very high regard. Just take a peep at our list of the 25 best dub techno tracks of all time if you’re still not sure.

That’s why we’re so bloody excited about the return of Shinichi Atobe. Atobe’s first and only release dropped back in 2001 on the cult imprint, and that was the last anybody heard from him – until now. Following a trail that led to Japan, Demdike Stare (aka Miles Whittaker and Sean Canty) tracked down Shinichi Atobe and realized he had a lot more material buried in the vaults, old and new.

Butterfly Effect is a lovingly compiled selection of that material, and is proof that the still breathtaking Ship-Scope 12″ wasn’t simply a one-off. You can peep samples over at Boomkat now.
