The immersive performances recorded in Tokyo and Krakow get a physical release.

Having just announced a reissue of illbient artists Spectre’s ’98 experimental hip-hop mixtape Ruff Kutz, PAN is wasting no time in getting 2015 off to a roaring start with another surprise release.

Available now on limited 2LP and CD versions, Live Knots collects two live versions of Australian multi-instrumentalist Oren Ambarchi’s ‘Knots’, a piece originally featured on his 2012 album Audience Of One. Built around the interplay between Ambarchi’s guitar lines and percussionist Joe Talia’s drumming, the two versions expand on the original in very different ways.

‘Tokyo Knots’ is the more intimate of the two, recorded in the Japanese capital ‘s SuperDeluxe venue in March 2013 alongside Talia. ‘Krakow Knots’ meanwhile, was a more ambitious version. Commissioned by Unsound for the 2013 Krakow edition of its festival, the extended version was performed with the Sinfonietta Cracovia, led by Eyvind Kang on viola.

If you’re a typography geek, the sleeve art by Bill Kouligas is especially great. Head over to Boomkat to check the record out and hear clips, or listen to the original below.
