Xavier Thomas explores imaginary lands on his fourth solo album.

After teaming up with Sudanese-born singer Alsarah for an album on Soundway Records, French producer Débruit continues his transcontinental journey with Outside The Line, due for release on his new label ICI in June.

Evocatively billed as “African coldwave”, the record is conceived as a place where “west Africa cohabits with 80s New York”, using icy synths and spare arrangements to reimagine elements of highlife, afrobeat and Shangaan electro in unexpected ways.

The first track taken from Outside The Line is ‘Separated Together’, a minimal, brooding track combining squiggly synth loops and soaring chants. Stream it below and look out for the album in CD and vinyl formats, with artwork by Markus Hofko, on June 15.
