The Mixpak boss returns with his latest production.

Dre Skull just dropped his Blacklight Riddim, an EP that sees his latest riddim vocalized by Konshens, QQ, Spice and Tifa. The Brooklyn-based producer is no stranger to vocalizing a dancehall riddim: back in 2012, he enlisted Beenie Man, Natalie Storm, Machel Montano, and Popcaan for Loudspeaker Riddim. (Popcaan’s version, ‘The System’, would later feature on his world-beating Where We Come From.)

‘Blacklight Riddim’ is a dembow-based groove with the usual Kingston-to-Brooklyn vibes for which Dre Skull is known. And while Konshens, QQ, Spice and Tifa might not be familiar names to people who don’t regularly listen to dancehall, Mixpak’s A&R is impeccable as always. Konshen keeps ’em wining, QQ croons like a Jamaican Frank Ocean, dancehall princess Spice is as sensual as ever, and Tifa is relentless in her search for a lover.

As he tells Fader, the song was originally recorded by Tifa as a Mixpak single, but RCA hoped to rework it as a Shakira song; the track then spent a few years in label purgatory as Shakira went in a different direction.
