Unfortunately, Ultimate DJ is definitely on.

An update on that DJ talent show of Simon Cowell’s we all hoped would never see the light of day – it’s officially launching next spring.

Ultimate DJ’s launch date was revealed by co-producer and Ultra Music founder Patrick Moxey during an interview with Pete Tong at IMS in Ibiza yesterday, saying that it would give “a massive global platform for new and emerging artists.”

“When you think about the underground music that Ultra started with 20 years ago, and how it’s now become a global lifestyle phenomenon today, to me, this is the next step in the evolution of this phenomenon,” Moxey said, seemingly unaware of the last 20 years of electronic music history.

Ultimate DJ was confirmed last month after years of uncertainty, with Steve Aoki reportedly on the judges’ panel. Yahoo is broadcasting the show online and allowing the audience to vote through Tumblr – chief marketing officer Kathy Savitt explained that the show was “very much like the World Cup of EDM — country against country, DJ against DJ, fanbase against fanbase.” [via NME]
