British producer will debut his ’90s-inspired alias with a new LP.

Damon Kirkham, AKA Jon Convex, will release a new album as Mikarma next month. Kirkham is perhaps best known as one half of Instra:mental, pioneering the Autonomic sound alongside Boddika before the pair parted ways three years ago. Recently, Convex revived his Kid Drama alias for a string of drum’n’bass releases on his own CNVX imprint. He’s also been working with Exit Records boss dBridge as Heart Drive.

Kirkham’s new LP is titled Passes and finds the producer experimenting with classic electronic music, particularly IDM from the ’90s. Passes was made with self-imposed limitations, using only equipment and technology available from that decade. The album was also inspired by the breakup of a long-term relationship.

“I’m a person who finds it hard to outwardly express my emotions,” Kirkham says. “I hold it in, which is pretty unhealthy, but I think writing music releases some of the pressure built up. The sad thing is my best work is normally when I’m at my lowest.”

Mikarma’s Passes will be released via CNVX on September 11. [via RA]
