A rare live performance by Turkish singer and activist Selda Bağcan will be released by Le Guess Who? this month.

Bağcan’s psychedelic take on her country’s folk music coupled with her commitment to the struggles of the working class have made her both famous and infamous in her homeland; repeatedly imprisoned for her outspoken politics during the 1970s and 80s, she has become one of the Turkey’s best-loved musical icons.

In 2014, Bağcan was the main guest of Le Guess Who? Festival in Utrecht, performing after sets by two of her famous fans, St. Vincent and tUnE-yArDs. “I had many, many gigs in Europe before,” Bağcan says of the show, “but [at] the performance at Le Guess Who?, I felt different and happier than before.”

A recording of the show is coming out on November 9 as a one-time vinyl pressing, limited to 500 copies, and ahead of its release we’ve got a full stream of the captivating show. Listen below and head to Le Guess Who?’s Bigcartel to pre-order the vinyl.

Underneath, you can also watch Bağcan talk about her music being banned by Turkish authorities in a video made at the festival by De Volkskrant. This year’s Le Guess Who? Festival takes places from November 19-22 with a line-up including Kamasi Washington, Prefuse 73, Lee Gamble and Demdike Stare.
