The Swedish singer-songwriter-organist returns with her third album.

With 2013’s Ceremony, Anna von Hausswolff abandoned the piano-driven atmospherics of her debut album Singing From The Grave for a drone metal-influenced sound that relied on pipe organ.

On The Miraculous (due out on November 13), von Hausswolff’s music is even more epic, due in large part to her use of the Acusticum Pipe Organ in Piteå, Northern Sweden, an organ with 9,000 pipes and one of the largest in Scandinavia. Not only does the organ provide the drones that are at the heart of the record, but its built-in glockenspiel, vibraphone, celeste, percussion and what von Hausswolff describes as a “screaming bird sound” adds a unique character to the record.

At times, The Miraculous evokes Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Swans, Black Sabbath and Sunn O))), with siren-like vocals reminiscent of Diamanda Galas. “It seems like everything I do is both a little bit in and out of fashion,” von Hausswolff says. In fashion or not, The Miraculous is exactly that.
