The hip-hop trio’s And The Anonymous Nobody also includes cameos from Damon Albarn, Little Dragon, Snoop Dogg and David Byrne.

De La Soul have announced details about their crowd-funded new album And The Anonymous Nobody, which features guest spots from Damon Albarn, Snoop Dogg and The Darkness’ Justin Hawkins.

Due for release this summer, the album – their first proper full-length release since 2004’s The Grind Date – was funded by fans who raised $600,000 towards the project.  “We were amazed,” Plug One, who originally hoped to raise $100,000, explains in the new issue of Q. “We didn’t doubt it would be raised but we didn’t think it could be done in a day and then exceeded.”

The crowd-funding decision was made to avoid a record label trying to meddle with the left-field sound they were working towards, he continues. “As we were working on it we were thinking ‘Would [a label] be able to accept what we’re giving them, when you’ve got a song where the chorus doesn’t come till five minutes in, or even at all? We realised  we might have to look at other methods… because we didn’t want to sacrifice the art.”

Damon Albarn, Snoop Dogg and Justin Hawkins are all listed as appearing on the record, with a song called ‘Drawn’ featuring Little Dragon and track called ‘Snoopies’ featuring David Byrne. It was previously announced in an interview with Rolling Stone that Usher, 2 Chainz, Estelle and Pete Rock will also be guesting.
