The guitarist will play the amphitheatre for the first time over 40 years.

In 1971, Pink Floyd famously played the Amphitheatre Of Pompeii, the oldest Roman amphitheatre on Earth, capturing the event in their concert film Live at Pompeii. This weekend, David Gilmour has returned to play there again and, to celebrate, Mayor Ferdinando Uliano has made him an honorary citizen of the ancient city.

It’s a unique honor considering Pompeii is most famous for nearly its entire citizenship being wiped out in the volcanic eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD.
