Thundercat is in the mix, too.
Over the weekend, Flying Lotus debuted short film Royal at the Sundance NEXT Festival under the moniker steve (yes, he directs films as “steve”) before revealing that it was actually part of a larger film called Kuso. He’s been “steady filming low key this year with some talented folks” (probably including David Firth of Salad Fingers fame) and is “65% finished.”
FlyLo also noted that the music is “coming along” and will feature new work by Aphex Twin, Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaoka, Thundercat and his rap alter-ego Captain Murphy.
There is no word on when this project will see a big screen, as he is still looking for financial backing. He won’t run a Kickstarter because he’d “rather just make the shit without having to play the perks game.”
You can read the full details of steve’s project below.
I lied .. "Royal" is just one piece of first my feature film called "Kuso" been steady filming low key this year with some talented folks.

Decided to follow my heart and make a film. Don't have financial support and spending a lot of time begging for favors but it feels right

So far Kuso is about 65% finished. The music is 'getting there' as well. A lot to do but the most fun I've had since I made @xCaptainMurphyx

There's some @xCaptainMurphyx in "Kuso"
