The ambient conjurer returns to Kranky with the followup to Sea Island.

Vancouver ambient artist loscil (aka Scott Morgan) will release his new album Monument Builders this fall on Kranky.

After last year’s heartbreaking Bandcamp highlight and charity release For Greta, Morgan said the inspiration for this next album started with the famous experimental nature film Koyaanisqatsi. Specifically, it was an old VHS copy that warped and distorted Philip Glass’ famous film score to delightful results.

“Glass has always been an influence but lo-fi Glass felt like a minor revelation,” Morgan said of the unique inspiration. The album comes from a period when life-threatening illnesses were effecting some of Morgan’s friends and family and mortality weighs heavily throughout.

Musical and emotional, you can hear both influences clearly on the album’s title track below. Look for Monument Builders November 11 via Kranky.
