A Florida judge and jury send the Islah rapper back to jail.

Kevin Gates has been sentenced to 180 days in jail for kicking a female fan in the stomach during a show in Lakeland, Florida, in August 2015.

A Florida judge and jury of six women rejected the Baton Rouge rapper’s claim of self-defense and found him guilty of battery. The incident was filmed by another concertgoer in a video which went viral last year.

In a previous hearing Gates admitted that he kicked 18-year-old fan Miranda Dixon after she reached out and grabbed him several times during the show at Rumor’s Nite Club.

The club’s head of security, Joe Hailey, testified at the trial and said the rapper’s security team did not make any special requests for additional security on the night. He also said there was room on the stage for Gates to move back if he did not want to be touched by fans, as WFLA reports.

The 30-year-old rapper had already had his Stand Your Ground defense plea rejected at an earlier hearing.

Gates previously served three and a half months of a four-month prison sentence for parole violations handed down in late 2013.

He released his major label debut, Islah, in February. This summer he revealed he had converted to Islam and later travelled to Mecca for Hajj.
