Our no. 1 album of 2016 takes home a major award.

Jenny Hval’s Blood Bitch has been named the recipient of the 2017 Phonofile Nordic Music Prize. It beats Jóhann Jóhannsson’s Arrival score and other Scandinavian competitors.

The award was designed after the Mercury Prize to celebrate the music of Scandinavia. Each country gets their own nominee and Hval has taken the honor this year for Norway.

“The winning album was an incredibly strong piece of work—engrossing, atmospheric, challenging and thought-provoking,” reads a judges’ statement. “The artist who made it is endlessly inventive, and a brilliant example of how the Scandinavian underground can make statements in music which can powerfully connect and cut through.”

Hval’s Blood Bitch was FACT’s no. 1 album of 2016. Revisit our review here.
