They claim the site was “inappropriate for hosting a large-scale event.”

The Bay festival has had to cancel this year’s event after opposition from the local authorities in Corsica.

Despite being given permission to hold the event in Solaro in February, a Facebook post from the organisers explains that local mayor Jean-Baptiste Paoli banned the original site on July 8. Although an alternative location was found, a deal to secure the site collapsed a week before the start of the festival.

As RA reports, a statement from the local authorities claimed that documents from the organisers were incomplete and both sites were “inappropriate for hosting a large-scale event.”

Speaking to RA, The Bay organiser Romain D-F said that “the local authorities told us to move to a new site they’d chosen themselves if we wanted to make the festival happen,” but that “on the radio, they called us “ravers” and were saying the festival would bring drugs to the island.”

The festival was originally due to take place from July 24 to 28, with acts including Jeff Mills, Ben Klock, John Talabot, Nina Kraviz and Carl Craig set to play to audiences of 5000 people a day. RA reports that some of the artists may play at local clubs instead, though nothing is confirmed.
