Last week, Jon Convex – a.k.a. Instra:mental’s Damon Kirkham – announced his first solo album, Idoru.

More information on the record has now been made available. Resident Advisor report that the album will feature 10 new tracks from Convex, including collaborations with Breakage and Velvit (an alias of long-time Instra:mental affiliate dBridge). In Convex’s words, “the album feels like a continuation of where I left off with [Instra:mental’s] Resolution: 653 … I’ve taken what I learned and moulded it to fit the direction I’m taking with Idoru.

“I’ve taken all my influences over the past 20 odd years and crafted an album that should appeal to both home listening and DJ abuse.”

Instra:mental remain one of the most influential drum’n’bass acts of recent years, but after ‘Watching You’, their classic 2009 single, the duo – by the admission of other member Al ‘Boddika’ Green – thought they’d taken the drum’n’bass template as far as they could. Since then, they’ve mostly released solo, with Boddika finding a regular home for his productions on DMZ co-founder Loefah’s Swamp81 label and Convex releasing on [Naked Lunch], 3024 and Convex Industries.

Idoru will be released in July, following the release of two pre-emptive EPs titled Idoru #1 and #2. Artwork above right.
