Trunk Records launch weekly 50p digital album series

Trunk Records are set to make Fridays a little more special with their new  #50pFriday series.

A sort of cheeky counterpart to Julian House and Jim Jupp’s Ghost Box imprint, Trunk are dedicated archivists of quicky, distinctly British esoterica. They’ve put out great OSTs (Kes, Dawn Of The Dead, The Wicker Man) and TV soundtracks (The Clangers, Life On Earth), and championed Library Music composers like Basil Kirchin and Barry Gray. They also do a nice line in vintage smut – you’re not going to find records like Mary Millington Talks Dirty and Dirty Fan Male anywhere else. They’re consistent, too – take a look at their wonderful tribute to outsider artist Jeff Keen, or their reissue of Bob Chance’s much-mythologised It’s Broken!.

The label’s new #50pFriday series will see Trunk make a gem from the Trunk catalogue available for digital download every Friday, priced at 50p a pop. According to label empresario Johnny Trunk, the treats will range from full-length albums and compilations to EPs and hard-to-find singles. The inaugural release is an LP from neglected composer and drifter Eden Ahbez, responsible for jazz standard ‘Nature Boy’. Eden’s Island is Ahbez’s only extant solo LP, and features 12 tracks of exotic psych and spiritual soliloquies. Fun fact: Ahbez once lived rough under the ‘L’ on the Hollywood sign. Head here to download.
