Berghain regular Marcel Fengler asks for Fokus on debut album

Berghain boy Marcel Fengler has announced details of his first studio LP.

Fengler’s no spring chicken – he came up in the early 1990s DJing alongside Marcel Dettman, and has held down stints at Tresor, E-Werk and, most famously, Berghain. His lifespan as a producer is considerably shorter, with his pretty ‘Playground’ disc arriving back in 2007. Since then, he’s touted his twinkling techno productions on Ostgut Ton and Mote-Evolver. In terms of long-form releases, the closest he’s come is 2011’s tough, atmospheric Berghain 05 mix CD.

Six years after the release of his first single, Fengler is finally set to release his debut full-length. Fokus was recorded in his Berlin studio over a three month period, and will collect 11 new tracks from the producer. Fengler describes the album as “at the threshold between house and techno”, and promises a blend of “club tracks” and “experimental approaches”. A truncated vinyl LP version of the record is also promised, and will run to nine tracks.

Fokus follows news that Fengler will be contributing to MASSE, the forthcoming ballet series at Berghain. Working collaboration with Efdemin, Fengler will soundtrack one of three new dance pieces; Dettmann, Âme and Henrik Schwarz are also confirmed to contribute.

Fokus is due on Ostgut Ton on July 8. It’s not the only significant Fengler milestone in 2013: the German producer is getting married in August. Bless.
