LA's Body High announces debut EP by dance duo NEWBODY, share hour-long mix

The LA-based duo mines the lively territory between house, techno, and garage.

In less than two years, Samo Soundboy and Jerome LOL’s Body High imprint has released new music from house legend Todd Edwards, Jersey club king DJ Sliink, and promising newcomers like Floyd Campbell and Myrryrs. Next up is rising Los Angeles duo NEWBODY.

NEWBODY brings together LA DJ/producer Jonathan Roshad and Detroit-bred singer-songwriter Roberto Ramone. Roshad names rave DJs Mark Farina, DJ Heather, and Gene Farris as his entrée into dance music, while Ramone cites the various sounds of Detroit — from techno to soul to pop — as his influences. The LA-based duo came together via MySpace due to a “mutual love of Prince and modern funk,” and the music of NEWBODY owes much to Todd Edwards, Masters at Work, and Kerri Chandler.

The duo will release their debut EP on Body High this summer (at one point, it appears that their first effort for the label was to be a single of ‘Sunny Dayz / Turn Me On’). Until then, stream this body-moving mix of classic tracks and NEWBODY originals. FACT interviewed Sam and Jerome about Body High earlier this year.
