Hello again, guv’nor.
JJ DOOM’s 2012 LP Keys To The Kuffs was an impressive, if not quite essential, set of cosmic slop – Anglophilic rhymes and none-more-DOOM brainbombs laid over frazzled space-age beats courtesy of Jneiro Jarel. In the list of great DOOM collaborations, it trumped Dangerdoom, but didn’t scrape the heights of Madvillainy (which says more about the brilliance of the latter than the inadequacy of the former).
As Pigeons And Planes note, JJ DOOM have now announced an extended “butter version” of the LP. The enhanced collection boasts three new tracks, plus a stash of altered edits and remixes. Thom Yorke & Jonny Greenwood’s familiar take on ‘Retarded Fren’, Dave Sitek’s ‘Rhymin Slang’ edit, recently released Clams Casino colalb ‘Bookfiend” and a new Beck remix of ‘Banished’ are included.
To flag the release, the pair have uploaded a video for new Keys track ‘BOOKHEAD’, which shows DOOM jettisoning his usual mask in favour of a circular mirror; the vibe is less Amazing Fantasy, more The Twilight Zone. Click below to watch.
FACT recently compiled the 10 essential DOOM tracks, ranging from Operation Doomsday cuts through to Born Like This material.
