Arctic Monkeys make last-minute Mercury Prize push

Will the Sheffield rockers join PJ Harvey as the prize’s only two-time winners?

The drama continues: with just a few hours until the Mercury Prize winner is announced, Arctic Monkeys have emerged as the favorites across a host of betting sites.

Both Ladbrokes and William Hill have given Arctic Monkeys even odds to win. Similarly, the band is at 8/11 on Betfred, 5/6 on Paddypower, and nearly-even (13/12) on Betfair. All of the sites have yesterday’s favorite, Laura Mvula, at anywhere from 5/2 to 2/1 odds.

Arctic Monkeys previously won the award with 2006 debut Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not. If AM was to win, the band would join PJ Harvey as the Mercury Prize’s only two-time winners. PJ Harvey won the prize in 2001 and 2011 for Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea and Let England Shake, respectively.
