Manic Street Preachers to preview "krautrock influenced" new album Futurology on 2014 tour

They’ve only just unleashed Rewind The Film, but the Blackwood trio have got another album up their sleeve.

The Manic Street Preachers have announced a string of tour dates next spring, during which they’ll preview tracks from their next album, Futurology.

The Welsh band revealed details of the album back in May, explaining that they had recorded 35 new tracks to be split across two records. The first, Rewind The Film, came out in September and was largely acoustic-based, featuring only one electric guitar along with a generous helping of brass. In contrast, the new album is “a lot spikier and shinier”, according to singer and guitarist James Dean Bradfield. He told NME:

“It’s much more band-based, a tiny bit of krautrock influence. It’s not like The Holy Bible but there’s a bit of the same intent and threat. Lyrically, it’s got a European fascination. The landscape of Europe, the malaise of Europe, the malaise of us Brits not feeling part of it. We’re not talking like the Tories, don’t worry – there’s not a song where we opt out of Europe. The lead track is me singing half in English and half in German.”

Futurology is due out next year. Tickets for the tour go on sale this Friday, November 15, at 9.30am – the full list of dates is included below. Watch the video for ‘Rewind The Film’, which features Sheffield indie veteran Richard Hawley. [via NME]
