Schoolboy Q proclaims himself 'Man Of The Year' following TDE spat with GQ magazine

The Black Hippy unveils his “bounce” basketball anthem.

With biting comic timing, Schoolboy Q has shared the full version of a track that was first heard in snippet form in the director’s cut of Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Bitch Don’t Kill My Vibe’ video (warning: clip contains girls dancing around a coffin).

‘Man Of The Year’, which is set to appear on the soundtrack of basketball game NBA Live ’14 rather than his forthcoming album OxyMoron, appears in the midst of a spat between Top Dawg Entertainment boss Anthony Tiffith and GQ magazine, which this month named Kendrick its ‘Man Of The Year’.

Last week Tiffith criticised the “racial overtones” of the magazine’s cover story, which he said put TDE “in a negative light” and “was more focused on what most people would see as drama or bs”. The TDE boss then cancelled Kendrick’s performance at GQ’s annual Man Of The Year party.

GQ editor-in-chief Jim Nelson defended the “incredibly positive article” and said he was “mystified and sorely disappointed by Top Dawg’s decision to pull him at the last minute from the performance he had promised to give.”

A release date for the long-delayed OxyMoron is expected to be set in the coming week; the album will include Schoolboy’s 2013 hits ‘Collard Greens’, ‘Yay Yay’ and ‘BANGER (Moshpit)’.
