Stream Warpaint's self-titled new album

Los Angeles quartet Warpaint release their self-titled second album next week, the follow-up to their moody 2010 debut The Fool

This time round, the band “leant towards things we thought were sexier,” guitarist and singer Theresa Wayman told the Guardian this week. “It was an actual adjective we would use, like, ‘Oh, that’s sexy’ or ‘I think it would be sexier if we did this…’ That actually happened quite a bit.”

Fellow singer and guitarist Emily Kokal also gave a synaesthetic description of the album, saying she hears Warpaint as “deep purple – not the band”.

The album was written and recorded in The Joshua Tree late last year, co-produced by the band and legendary producer Flood, who mixed the album with Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich. The album artwork is by famed video director Chris Cunningham.

Warpaint is out on Rough Trade on January 20. Head to NPR to stream it in full.
