John Cale has paid tribute to his old bandmate with a new song.

The Velvets bassist and evergreen songwriter shared a video for ‘If You Were Still Around’ this morning, marking one year since Lou Reed’s death.

The song, built on a very Velvets-y organ drone, references Reed’s passing with the lyrics, “If you were still around I’d hold you, I’d shake you by the knees, blow hard in both ears,” while the video references the psychedelic portraits on the back cover of the their iconic 1967 album The Velvet Underground & Nico.
