The show will premiere in conjunction with the release of Major Lazer‘s new album.

Back in 2011, Adult Swim announced their plans to create an animated series inspired by Major Lazer. That never happened, but it looks like the Major Lazer show will finally come to life on a different network. FXX will premiere the first episode on April 16 at midnight during their Animation Domination block with the full series coming later this year.

Diplo is credited as co-creator and executive producer of the series. Read the premise and watch the show’s opening theme below.

The reggae dancehall grooves of Major Lazer are just one of the highlights in Major Lazer. The animated series tells the story of a superhero named Major Lazer who, with the help of his two teenaged friends, Penny and BLKMRKT, fights against the villains that populate the futuristic dystopia that is Jamaica. A self-proclaimed “Guardian of the Groove,” Major Lazer vows to fight for the rights of the Jamaican people and to bring down the ruthless curmudgeon, President Whitewall.
