The series of reissues also features contemporary remixes from the likes of Blawan and Demdike Stare.

Legendary jungle outfit Source Direct are being given the reissue treatment by Boddika’s Nonplus label, with a series of remix 12″s and remastered digital versions of their back catalogue on the way.

As RA reports, the first two reissues are 1995’s ‘Approach & Identify’, which will be reworked by Modern Love duo Demdike Stare, and 1996’s ‘Black Rose’, which gets a remix from modular techno fiend Blawan. The project is the result of a longstanding friendship between Boddika and remaining Source Direct member Jim Baker, who first met at London club The End in the late 1990s.

“It’s something we’ve spoken about a few times over the last couple of years and I personally thought now is a better time than ever to unleash this project, especially as there’s been a growing interest in old jungle recently — it wouldn’t be right to leave this music out of the loop,” Boddika told RA. “We also wanted to breathe new life into the project by getting remixes done to accompany the original tracks. We decided to ask artists from different scenes and genres to make use of the samples and get their interpretations on the original music.”

The first of the two – featuring Blawan’s remix – will be available on June 8, with the second to follow. RA reports that these are just the first of many reissues, with more remix 12″s to follow and much of the Source Direct back catalogue – which has never been made available digitally – to be remastered and re-released in the future. You can preview Blawan’s remix below, and if you need a primer before then, revisit The Essential… Source Direct.
