Listen to David Wise’s ‘Jungle Challenge’ now.

Today a Kickstarter appeared for Yooka-Laylee, a video game from veterans of the development company Rare. Rare is perhaps best known for making the Donkey Kong Country games for Super Nintendo and Banjo Kazooie for Nintendo 64, and the team has cited the latter as the direct inspiration for Yooka. The game originally set a goal of $270,041, but has already broken $600,000 in a few hours.

One of the most exciting pieces of news to come from it is in the music. That’s because Yooka-Laylee features a soundtrack by David Wise and Grant Kirkhope, the respective composers behind Donkey Kong Country and Banjo Kazooie. Both composers are featured heavily on our feature The 100 Greatest Video Game Soundtracks Of All Time, which we published earlier this week.

Furthermore, Wise was interviewed on FACT a few years ago by Ryan Hemsworth, who described Wise’s ‘Stickerbrush Symphony’ as “one of my favourite pieces of music ever.”

Listen to a new song by Wise that features on the Yooka-Laylee soundtrack titled ‘Jungle Challenge’ below.
