Police have launched an appeal for sightings of Bristol resident DJ Derek, dubbed “the UK’s oldest DJ”.

Derek Morris was officially reported missing by his family last night. His niece Jennifer says her family has not seen or heard from her uncle in three weeks, and is using Facebook and Twitter to appeal to the public for sightings.

She said: “Has anyone seen Derek in the last three weeks? This is urgent, please let us know. Police are now informed and he is being treated as a missing person.”

The 73-year-old is well known in Bristol and has played hundreds of gigs over the years – he even appeared in Dizzee Rascal’s video for ‘Dirtee Disco’ in 2010. The former accountant became a DJ in his mid-30s, playing rocksteady, reggae, ska, dancehall and soul. He announced his retirement in 2013, playing his final show at Notting Hill Arts Club.

Anyone with any information about Derek’s whereabouts is asked to contact the police, or his niece Jennifer via Twitter. [via Bristol Post]
