Hear a track from the innovative UK club producer’s next 12″.

Much like kindred Bristol spirits Hodge and Lurka, Batu specialises in bass-heavy, lurching club music with its roots in UK soundsystem culture.

After debuting in 2013 with singles on Pinch’s Cold Recordings and Livity Sound’s Dnuos Ytivil sub-label, Bristol’s Batu spent much of the next 12 months honing his craft. Earlier this year he returned with his own label, Timedance, and a single for the city’s Hotline Recordings, which took his template into even stranger places.

His next release sees him link up with another similarly-minded UK producer in the shape of Beneath, whose Mistry label provides the home for Batu’s third 12″ of the year. Featuring two tracks, ‘Dekalb’ and ‘Collate’, it sits comfortably alongside previous releases on the label from Chevel, Webstarr, Alex Coulton and Laksa.

Streaming below, A-side track ‘Dekalb’ combines the spaciousness of a vintage dubstep roller with rhythms that sound as if they’ve warped in the sun. It’s some of Batu’s most inventive material yet, and isn’t lacking in chest-punching bass either.

You’ll be able to pick up the 12″ on September 10, which also features the rattling B-side ‘Collate’. Until then, you can revisit FACT’s 2013 interview with Batu here.
