Bristol producer Ziro goes Lionheart on a new EP for Crazylegs.

Ziro inaugurated the also-Bristol-based label back in 2012 with ‘Coded’/’Oni’, and after a diversion to Damu’s Fulcrum label, returned in 2014 with the Trim collaboration ‘Lost’. It’s no surprise that he takes his time with releases: listening to Ziro’s music, you’re regularly struck by the layers and meticulous detail to it.

Lionheart features some of Ziro’s biggest sounding music to date, combining trance riffs with earth-shaking drum patterns that appear to draw more from grime and rap than the swung techno of his early work. It also includes collaborations with MC Riko Dan (with whom Ziro has been performing of late) and Bjork-approved nutjob Bloom.

“The EP is the culmination of about nine months’ work, although a couple of the tracks date back to last summer in different iterations,” Ziro explained to FACT. “It’s been a period where I’ve finally become able to execute the ideas in my head somewhat faithfully, incorporating the full range of my influences into something that’s unique to me. So this record feels like a milestone.

“The title track came about last autumn and ended up driving the whole EP really – it’s definitely the weirdest track on there but I think it’s the one that makes the clearest statement too.”

Crazylegs will release Lionheart on October 30. Stream the title track below, and pre-order it here. Back in 2013 Ziro went Against the Clock for FACT TV, watch that below.
