“This must be stopped.”

Phil Collins announced his to return to music last month, marking the end of a four-year hiatus. The former Genesis singer intends to record a new studio album, launch an archival campaign and embark on a world tour. Although we’re hardly against the idea and wouldn’t mind seeing a live tour of Selling England by the Pound, some weren’t too pleased by the news.

petition was launched recently attempting to halt Collins’ musical comeback. “There is far too much suffering in the world as it is,” reads the petition, which is addressed to the United Nations. “This must be stopped.”

The campaign has been closed after it accrued 4,352 signatures in a matter of days. One signee wrote in support, “We’ve burned the rainforests, poisoned the oceans, polluted the air, thrown an orbiting ring of debris around the planet, and generated enough landfill to cover entire countries. Time to draw a line in the sand and stop the madness. Collins cannot be permitted to return to work or future generations will NEVER forgive us!!”

A counter petition has since been launched welcoming the blue-eyed soul man’s return. [via CoS]
