Ahead of their eagerly-awaited album Bottomless Pit dropping tomorrow, Death Grips have peeled back the curtain on another track, ‘Trash’. But you’ll have to dial a hotline to hear it.
Punch 1-844-278-7255 into your phone and you’ll hear a message welcoming you to the “caged pillow feelings network.” You can then press 1 to hear ‘Trash’, 2 to hear a radio broadcast – that segues into the American national anthem – or 3 to leave a message.
Pressing 4 triggers a woman’s voice: “How to touch the world of caged pillows” The response offers this answer: “You just have to look in the right light. … We will guide you through the process step by step over the next few days.”
Updates will be posted via the band’s Instagram account but “the feelings network is a living breathing object and changes day to day, so you might want to save this number to your contacts.”
This is the latest chapter in an album cycle saga that has included bizarre 32-minutes videos and 6-track instrumental EPs. Bottomless Pit, the follow-up to last year’s Jenny Death, was announced in October with a video featuring the late actress Karen Black reading from a screenplay written by Death Grips’ Zach Hill.
Meanwhile, someone’s turned the band into muzak and called it ElevatorGrips.
