The Icelandic band unveil a new song in Barcelona.

Sigur Rós debuted ‘Óveður’, a track likely taken from their forthcoming eighth album, at Primavera Sound last night.

In this fan-shot footage, the bass is destroyed but we get the idea – ‘Óveður’ sounds like something of a return to the majestic slowcore of the band’s earlier albums, with a touch of My Bloody Valentine even, and we are very excited.

As Pitchfork reports, the band recently stripped back their live set, with core members flanked by a huge light and video production.

The band are currently road-testing new material from their next project before recording, an approach they haven’t taken since developing 2002’s ( ) on the tour for Ágætis Byrjun. After kicking off at Primavera in Barcelona last night, the band will continue their world tour at the Porto branch of the festival next week. See tour dates below.
