The rapper has denied a rape charge stemming from 2015.

Freddie Gibbs will remain behind bars in France for at least another week after his extradition hearing for a rape charge was postponed.

The rapper’s arrest in Toulouse last Thursday stemmed from a European warrant issued by Austria relating to an alleged rape committed in 2015.

His lawyer Michael Malka told a hearing yesterday: “Freddie Gibbs has indicated to the court that he would not be willing to be handed over to Austrian authorities without exercising his rights to a defence.”

Malka added: “He categorically denies the accusations made against him in Austria. He is even very surprised that Austria could act on this a year later, while he was on tour in Europe.”

Last week another lawyer for the Pinata rapper denied the “trumped up charges”, saying: “It makes you wonder why it took almost a year for Austrian officials to bring these charges.”

Gibbs had been scheduled to wrap up his European tour in Portugal on Friday before heading back to North America for another string of shows. [via AFP/MalayMailOnline]
