The TV show will focus on the sixteen weeks leading up to Jackson’s death.

An upcoming TV series based on Michael Jackson’s last days is to be produced by Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ J.J Abrams, reports Variety.

Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions will develop Tavis Smiley’s book, Before You Judge Me: The Triumph and Tragedy of Michael Jackson’s Last Days, which explores the sixteen weeks leading up to Jackson’s death.

The book – which is out today (June 20) – focusses on the artist’s constant search for privacy. No further details or release date for the TV series has been confirmed as yet.

News that Smiley would be adapting his Jackson book was first announced in October. He’s also developing My Journey With Maya, a memoir of his 30-year friendship with poet Maya Angelou.

Meanwhile, a movie about the post-9/11 road trip Jackson took with Elizabeth Taylor and Marlon Brando is currently in production, starring Joseph Fiennes as Michael Jackson.
