Two of 2016’s best soundtracks are up for awards.

The full list of nominees for this year’s BAFTAs are in, with Jóhann Jóhannsson’s score for Denis Villeneuve’s Arrival and Mica Levi’s soundtrack for Pablo Larraín’s Jackie Kennedy biopic, Jackie, both nominated for best original music.

Justin Hurwitz’s La La Land and Abel Korzeniowski’s Nocturnal Animals are also among the music nominations – see the full list below.

For her second movie soundtrack, Mica Levi used the same glissandos she employed to score 2013’s Under the Skin, which was also nominated for a BAFTA the following year. “I’ve just always been interested in those glisses,” she told FACT of the warped sound that permeates the soundtrack.

“It’s something that happens if you slow [your playing] down, you get this glooping and distortion and morphing of [sound]. It’s something I really like the sound of, but it can be quite expressive as well.”

This year, Icelandic composer Jóhann Jóhannsson is faced with the prospect of scoring Blade Runner 2049 – a task that he’ll no doubt pass with flying colours.

2017 BAFTA nominations for Best Original Music:

Arrival – Johann Johannsson
Jackie – Mica Levi
La La Land – Justin Hurwitz
Lion – Dustin O’Halloran & Hauschka
Nocturnal Animals – Abel Korzeniowski
