The film still has no release date.

After first being announced in 2014, the Morrissey biopic Steven began filming last year without the consent of its subject. Now producer Orian Williams has revealed an update from the project, including the new title England Is Mine.

Williams explained in a SiriusXM interview that the new title refers to the Smiths’ ‘Still Ill’ and is more ideally approachable than Steven, a reference to Morrissey’s first name.

“It was called Steven and a lot of people were like ‘Steven? What’s Steven?’,” he said. “We want to make the movie for people that weren’t just Morrissey or Smiths fans. We want to make it for people that had never heard of this movie.”

Starring actor Jack Lowden in the lead role, the film focuses on the rock star’s early life. Williams revealed the film’s final scene depicts Morrissey meeting Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr.

Williams, who previously produced the well-received Ian Curtis biopic Control, said England Is Mine is filmed but gave no release date.
