The first taste of her forthcoming album.

Björk has shared a new track called ‘The Gate’.

The first single from her forthcoming ninth studio album, ‘The Gate’ is available to listen to digitally below. It’s also being released as a limited edition 12″ vinyl on September 22 – pre-order a copy now. An Andrew Thomas Huang-directed video for the song is on the way.

“‘The Gate’ is essentially a love song, but I say ‘love’ in a more transcendent way,” said the Icelandic star. “Vulnicura was about a very personal loss, and I think this new album is about a love that’s even greater. It’s about rediscovering love – but in a spiritual way, for lack of a better word.”

In a recent interview with Dazed, Björk delved a little deeper into this theme, describing the album as her “Tinder record.”

“I set myself up with the last album being a heartbreak album, so everyone’s gonna be like, ‘Are you married?’ with this one. But… it’s too fragile still. I think, if I could, I’d just say this is my dating album. Let’s just leave it there” she explained.

The new as-yet-untitled album, which sees Björk team up with Venezuelan artist Arca once again, is due out in November.
