North London producer Yemi Olagbaiye has been attracting attention with remixes for the likes of Landslide and KLIC.

On March 2, Olagbaiye – aka ‘Blacksmif’ – will release his debut EP, And The Sun Rose Out, via Synchronicity. Blacksmif’s arrangements marry dusky samples to surprisingly robust low-ends, augmented by fragments of spoken word or curlicues of horn.

The EP’s superb title track locates a beguiling middle ground between Sa Ra Creative Partners and Funkystepz. ‘M.A.N.D.Y’, meanwhile, sounds nothing like its namesake; its leaf-crunch beat would fit pretty snugly onto the Brainfeeder roster. All in all, And The Sun Rose Out is a bold opening salvo from an artist who clearly has plenty to say.
