James Welch introduces his debut album with a slice of delicately dazzling techno.

‘Rilo’, the first track to be taken from Seams’ debut album Quarters, sees the British producer take his loose expressionism into more linear, grooving and nocturnal territory, while the accompanying Jonathan Pound-directed video makes use of pulsating circles and branching molecular structures to underline that new-found clarity.

Billed as something of a psychogeographical journey, Quarters was recorded in four different locations around the Hampshire-born producer’s current home of Berlin. The eight-track effort is Seams’ first full-length following a couple of EPs on Pictures Music, including 2010’s Tourist, which were bundled together for a release on Full Time Hobby last year.

Quarters is out on 16 September.
