Isan remix

Going from strength to strength, Mala’s Deep Medi imprint is well on its way to becoming a contender for label of the year. With their Deep Medi Vol 1 released late last month, Volume 2 is due for release in April.

But in the mean time they’ve just released the second 12”, a pair of remixes of ‘Protecting Hands’, by Finnish outfit Clouds. Released late last year, the original version saw Deep Medi deviate away from their regular 140bpm tempo, taking things down to around the 135 mark as Clouds opted for a meditative folk infused guitar melody that happily sat with the track’s electronic bassline.

For remixes they enlist Nottingham’s Geoim and cult electronic stalwarts Isan to rework the track. Geiom is no newcomer himself, the Berkane Sol boss has been recording since the late 90s, and here he creates a dreamy version of the track, reassembling its haunting vocals across a broken half-step grid to soulful, head-knocking effect. Isan stick with their renowned minimalist palette, reducing the percussion down to close-to-beatless on an atmospheric journey that keeps ascending and seems to never come down.
