Built around the core creative partnership of Luke Top and Lewis Pesacov, Fool’s Gold manage to combine Western and African influences without being at all embarrassing or overreaching – in itself no mean feat.

Their recently released, self-titled debut album draws inspiration from high-life and Congolese rhumba as much as harmony-drenched Cali-pop a la The Byrds or Dion, but the mood is straight-up party dancehall for Poseidon’s remix of ‘Test Dem’. The track features vocals from the one and only Sizzla – erratic badman genius, kind of Jamaica’s answer to Wiley (true saying, The Heatwave) – and while the riddim is a little less rugged than we’d like, his hoarse and hoary delivery o’er top is, as ever, compelling.
