Following their 2008 reissues of Robert Wyatt‘s classic LPs – including the marvellous Rock Bottom, Ruth Is Stranger Than Richard and Comicopera, on June 7 of this year Domino present a new edition of His Greatest Misses.
His Greatest Misses, previously released as a Japan-only limited edition, is a best of compilation that provides a perfect introduction to, and startling affirmation of, Wyatt’s talents. A truly singular artist whose recordings mingle and traverse folk, experimental pop, post-prog psychedelia and jazz. If you’re not familiar with his work, get yourself a copy of Misses and head straight for the strung-out brass of ‘Solar Flares’, aching avant-ballad ‘Sea Song’ and – of course – the mighty ‘Shipbuilding’.
Says Wyatt of the comp: “A thoughtful chap in Japan brought these tunes together as a sort of canter around my back catalogue – a reminder or introduction. I’m grateful to Domino for giving it a run round the block over here. And blimey! My little drawings were done about sixty years ago….how retrospective can you get?”
