Er, this is either quite cool, or a bit lame. We’re not sure which.

A blimp flew over the crowd during Jay-Z’s set at the Coachella festival this weekend, advertising M.I.A.’s forthcoming live appearances in New York and Los Angeles this summer. It also broadcast the following line: “New Album 6.29.10.”

No title, no other details, just a release date. Still, it’s a good thing M.I.A. wasn’t intending to do this in Europe, given recent ash-related events.

Rap-Up originally reported this apparently, but it’s since been confirmed by Pitchfork and more, so we’re guessing this isn’t just something Lindsey Lohan thought she saw while hanging out (sober, naturally) at ‘Chella with Daisy Lowe and decided to broadcast on Twitter. M.I.A.’s new album will be released on June 29 via Interscope and her own N.E.E.T. label.

Spotters amongst you will notice that that’s the same date as kind-of-M.I.A.-protege Rye Rye’s new album Go! Pop! Bang! is due to drop, though you know how release dates are. At least one will be pushed back or brought forward due to a leak.
