London promoters No Pain In Pop are bringing James Ferraro and Spencer Clark to London for a live show at CAMP this coming Tuesday, 8 June.

It’s a rare UK appearance from the duo, who record together as Skaters. On this occasion they’ll be performing solo, Ferraro under his own name and Clark as Monopoly Child Star Searchers.

We’re particularly looking forward to Ferraro’s set, and hearing first-hand what NPIP describe as his “synth-heavy mutilations, often sounding like Jan Hammer being drugged into submission, always with that delicately skewed focus on reality that tickles the brain sweetly but can leave you unnerved all the same”. Ferraro has released dozens of cassettes and CD-Rs over the past few years, including classics like Heaven’s Gate, Clear and (as Grippers Nothers Onesers) At Slimer Beach, but a good starting point is Last American Hero, recently re-issued on vinyl by New York’s Olde English Spelling Bee.

This is easily one of the most essential gigs of 2010 so far; find more info here and tickets (which are at snip at £5) here. Alas it clashes with Ducktails’ show on the same night; tough decision time for the hypnagogic posse.
