Antena‘s classic 1982 album Camino del Sol has been reissued on CD and deluxe double-vinyl by the wonderful Numero label.

Antena – a trio led by Isabelle Antena, former au pair of Rick Wakeman no less – recorded their evergreen debut with Gilles Martin for Brussels’ Les Disque Du Crepuscule. A modern bossa nova record which Numero describe as providing “the missing link between Antonio Carlos Jobim and Kraftwerk”, the album fell into obscurity shortly after its release, and the band parted ways. Over the next 25 years Camino built an unlikely but richly deserved cult following, especially among Balearic-minded DJs; in 2007 Permanent Vacation released a 12″ series and compilation of the album’s finest tracks and contemporary remixes from the likes of Joakim, Todd Terje and Nouvelle Vague.

Numero’s reissue is typically lavish and considered. The Camino del Sol LP  is packaged in a replica of its original Benoit Hennebert-designed sleeve, and a second LP houses ‘Seaside Weekend’, four songs from the ‘Boy From Ipanema’ session, two Crepescule compilation cuts and four period outtakes.

Not only is Camino del Sol an utterly unique and captivating work of art, it’s also just about the best summer album ever made. The deluxe reissue is out now; find more info here.
