La Roux have curated the latest in Renaissance’s Sidetracked compilation series.

Elly Jackson and Ben Langmaid follow in the footsteps of Hercules & Love Affair’s Andrew Butler, assembling 17 tracks for a CD and download release due out on July 26.

“Me and Ben enjoyed putting this mix together. It’s a really nice snapshot of both our musical influences. A lot of the tracks on here are songs we listened to while making our album set alongside some new stuff we’re into…”

It’s a solid selection, with an inevitable bias towards coiffured 80s electro-pop and New Romantic fare, including turns from Japan, Heaven 17 and Tears For Fears. More recent tracks come from Fever Ray (remixed by Studio’s Dan Lissvik) and Kavinsky (remixed by SebastiAn); there’s also space for La Roux’s cover of The Rolling Stones’ ‘Under My Thumb’ and Elly Jackson’s remix of ‘Self Machine’ by I Blame Coco.
